Forrester, a well-known market research company, released a consumer-grade tablet sales forecast on Monday. The company predicts that as of 2016, 34.4% of the US population, that is, 112.5 million people will have tablet computers. 30.4% of the European population, that is 105.7 million people will have a tablet. The total sales of US tablets will reach 37.90 million this year, and will reach 60.3 million by 2016. Forrester thinks the iPad’s main competitor is the Amazon Kindle Fire, and analyst Sarah Rotman Epps said he thinks the tablet’s sales have reached 5.5 million within three months. Epps believes that Apple will release a smaller, cheaper iPad to compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire. According to Forrester's survey, 62% of consumers tend to buy 10-inch devices, and 26% prefer small-screen tablets.
