Christmas tree using organic EL lighting
The organic EL component for flexible lighting used by GE's organic EL research group announced that the company's research department GE Global Research has successfully produced a Christmas tree using organic EL lighting.
An organic EL element for flexible lighting having a width of 6 inches (15.2 cm) and a length of 15 feet (457.2 cm) was wrapped around the base of the Christmas tree. The organic EL element for illumination used was manufactured by roll-to-roll printing technology, and was developed by researchers at GE in early 2008. The company has been developing roll-to-roll manufacturing processes that enable low-cost production and is leading the way in the commercialization of organic EL lighting.
Anil Duggal, head of GE's organic EL development project, said that he hopes to stimulate people's imagination through the Christmas tree and show the infinite possibilities of a new generation of lighting.
