Electronic enthusiasts early eight: News on the afternoon of July 27, the future traffic summit was held in Beijing. Wang Jin, founder and CEO of Jingchi Technology, and Wang Jin, senior vice president of Baidu, delivered a speech. He believes that the unmanned vehicles will be ready for mass production by 2020. If the unmanned vehicle system can replace the driver, the price per kilometer of the taxi can be reduced by half, from 2.3 yuan to 1.15 yuan, and a large profit can be guaranteed.
Wang Jin delivered a speech
From the departure of Baidu in March this year, to the establishment of Jingchi Technology in April, Wang Jin has always been the focus of attention. As an important promoter of the former Baidu Autopilot Division, Wang Jin's industry perspective and R&D experience are beyond doubt.
It’s just that identity conversion and the advancement of US R&D take time. Four months after the retreat, Wang Jin re-launched the stage today. "This is my first foreign speech after I announced my business." It seems confident and calm.
Although it is a forum platform, not home, but Wang Jinyi opened the scene to reveal the latest progress of the team. “Nineteen companies around the world have announced the launch of driverless cars in 2021, but we believe this can be done in 2020, one year ahead of schedule.â€
Wang Jin said that the Jingchi unmanned vehicle can land one year ahead of Google, Baidu and other car companies. We still don't know the technical progress, but at least we can see that the internal promotion rhythm is extremely fast. After all, this is a family. Established a company less than four months old. Especially in terms of team formation, Wang Jin has digged big cattle from Velodyne and Shenzhou Special Vehicle Silicon Valley Research Institute.
When it comes to the smart travel industry, Wang Jin believes that the current intelligent, electrified, industrial integration, and shared travel are four obvious industrial trends, and are also an important driving force for the landing of driverless technology.
The upgrade of computing power, algorithmic enhancement, and the emergence of high-precision maps make intelligence possible. The car's electrification has made the engine and gearbox disappear, and the number of parts for electric cars has been reduced by two-thirds compared to internal combustion cars.
Sharing travel has become a trend, "This is a very good breakthrough for drone driving," Wang Jin said. Ordinary people's willingness to try to ride an unmanned vehicle is far greater than the willingness to buy. If the unmanned vehicle is driven by the platform, it will greatly reduce the cost of the unmanned vehicle and the platform itself.
Wang Jin gives a set of data: If the unmanned vehicle system can replace the driver, the price per kilometer of the taxi can be reduced by half, from 2.3 yuan to 1.15 yuan, and can also guarantee a large profit.
When it comes to industrial integration, Wang Jin gave a case of cooperation with many overseas companies. Google and Chrysler formed an alliance and reached a cooperation with Lyft. GM acquired the startup Cruise and invested in Lyft. Ford not only started self-development early but also invested in the startup Argo. . "High-tech companies + car companies + travel companies are forming the direction of industrial integration," Wang Jin said.
Convergence is the positive trend of the industry, and on the other hand, it also reveals the status quo. Internet companies such as Google and Baidu, such as Ford, GM, Bosch and other traditional car companies and upstream and downstream companies, as well as startup companies, are still in a separate state at the software and hardware level.
Everyone is talking about openness, such as Baidu's Apollo plan, so who might become the last universal platform?
For this, Wang Jin’s experience is that “there is no way in the world, but if there are more people, it will become a road.†He emphasized that openness and open source are different concepts, and open source is not the only measure. “The platform needs to be safe enough to be supported by the public, develop well in the ecosystem, and eventually be selected by most.â€
In the direction of the choice of automatic driving, Wang Jin chose the L4 (automatic driving) direction of the most difficult system, using the most mature 64-line Velodyne laser radar, which is also the most expensive part of the unmanned vehicle. When talking about the high cost barriers to the adoption of unmanned vehicles, Wang Jin believes that the key to mass production.
"Our CFO is Velodyne's former CFO, and I have a say in cost." Wang Jin said. He introduced that now 64-line laser radar is now only available in two countries, Google and Velodyne. The latter is priced at $80,000, which is more expensive than a regular car. "But the cost is only $8,000."
However, it is still quite popular in the circle. "It takes half a year to get the full price. Velodyne only produces 300 pieces per year. Some people are willing to pay 3 times the price to buy the equipment in our hands."
This is caused by scarcity and can also be reduced by mass production. “When the equivalent production reaches 100,000, the cost can be reduced to 500 US dollars, which is announced by Velodyne.â€
For the earliest practitioners and advocates of domestic autonomous driving, Wang Jin believes that the integration of industry and the new force of innovation and entrepreneurship in China, the perfection and pillar of laws and regulations is the most important factor in the current implementation of autonomous driving.
Whether it is post-meeting exchanges or performances on the stage, Wang Jin, who returned after four months, is full of energy. For the old hero who had been in Baidu for seven years, entrepreneurship may be his better home. The infinite delusions and suspicions left at that time have become a thing of the past. At least he is still unmanned. (Hou Dizhen)
The following is a record of Wang Jin’s speech:
Hello everyone, I am very happy, thank you for the introduction of the host. Today is the first time I have represented Jingchi Technology in public. No one has doubted today that the era of driverlessness is coming towards us, but many people still have different opinions about the time when the era of driverlessness comes. Today, I would like to ask everyone here, what do you think is the automatic L4 unmanned mass-produced car that can enter our lives in batches? I think friends who have been working for more than ten years will raise their hands. Not much, 10% is not there. I think it takes about five years to raise a hand, more than just now, but only about one third of them. I think that friends who only need three years or so will raise their hands, and even fewer, only about 5% of them, and many friends have not decided, or that there is no such judgment. Let's take a look at how the industry judges this.
A year and a half ago, I was the first in the world to say that in 2021, a fully automated unmanned mass road was launched. Today, this has become a mainstream opinion in the industry. There are already 19 companies around the world, including car companies and high-tech companies and travel companies that believe that in 2021 they will launch a batch of driverless cars. Well, today we have some new ideas. Today, my judgment, this time will be nearly one year ahead of schedule, that is, in 2020, we will see tens of thousands of batches of tens of thousands or more. Type of driverless cars come into our lives, all over the world.
Why do you think so? Because of these five reasons: First, artificial intelligence technology has made a breakthrough. Second, the car is electrified. Third, share travel. Fourth, the integration of industry. Fifth, laws and regulations. Let's take a look at these reasons one by one.
Everyone knows that artificial intelligence has appeared more than 60 years ago. A new technology emerged 11 years ago, called deep learning. This technology began to get a scaled application four and a half years ago. It is used in what we call artificial intelligence today. A technology. Artificial Intelligence Technology We use Alpha Go as an example. In the past, people did a lot of games against Go. I used to play Go with the computer, but it is much worse than the professional player. Until the emergence of deep learning technology, defeated the world's best Go players, deep learning has become a breakthrough in artificial intelligence technology.
Second, why artificial intelligence can make a breakthrough today, and one is the rapid increase in computing power. The Chinese are the first in the world to use GPUs for in-depth learning. I clearly remember that when we were looking for NVDAR four years ago, they only knew how to use intelligence to play games. The changes are not just in deep learning algorithms.
Third, the emergence of new sensors, especially lidars, and large-scale applications have made unmanned eyes brighter than ever. At the same time, with the new high-precision map technology introduced by Zhenning just now, the technology of high-precision positioning has made a good breakthrough. In the past, the accuracy of the map was about the meter level, or ten meters. Today, it is in the centimeter level, and the high-precision positioning is also in the centimeter level, which makes the driverless technology have a good foundation. Therefore, combining these factors, today's artificial intelligence technology brings a very good brain and eyes to driverless.
Second, the scale of car electrification. Why is electrification affecting driverlessness? Because the electrification of the car leads to the digitization of the electronic control system inside the car, and the electronic control system of the new generation of electric vehicles can now be electronically controlled on a large scale. Gives a very good foundation for driverless cars. At the same time, it eliminated the most complicated engine and gearbox inside the car, causing the threshold to drop significantly.
More importantly, in the middle of today's travel, sharing travel has become a fashion, and even become a big trend, not only in the car, but also in the Mobike bicycle, we see a very strong trend. Sharing travel is actually a very good breakthrough for driverless driving. I have asked many good friends and said that today you will buy a driverless car. If the technology is good enough, the security is good enough, will you Buy? Most people give me the answer, I have to think about it, I have to take a look. But I asked most of my friends, saying that you are willing to go to a driverless car to sit once, and most people agree. At the end of last year, in November last year, I held a test-taking experience at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen. At that time, I was prepared to provide 200 people who participated in the event to give them a chance to test-taking. The results were lined up and there was also a national ministerial level. Senior cadres, as well as corporate executives, are very enthusiastic. So, after more than 300 people tried to ride the driverless car, sharing the car would give a very good opportunity and application scenario for driverless driving. At the same time, its cost will drop significantly. Because if you buy a private car, plus an automatic driving system, the price will increase, but the driver is replaced by an unmanned system, and its cost is reduced in shared travel. We have calculated that if the taxis in Beijing today use the driverless system, its price can be reduced to half of today's, that is, it is now two three, when it falls to a piece of one, the taxi company still Have a very rich profit. Therefore, it can reduce the cost of sharing travel by scale.
The third reason is the integration of industry. Let us use the United States as an example, using Google in the United States. Google is the most advanced driverless technology in the United States. More than a year ago, we often regretted the internal analysis. Google took a lot of detours. Why? They started to make a car like a small bread, but they did not make full use of the car industry for more than 100 years. The experience that came down until last year, they and Chrysler reached a good cooperation, I think they have come to a better industrial integration. At the beginning of this year, he reached a strategic cooperation with LYFT, the second-ranked shared travel company in the United States. Therefore, Google’s entire industry positioning has been well revised. The news I got inside and outside, Google's unmanned car is likely to enter the US city in about three years.
In addition, from the perspective of American car companies, you can see that GM bought a driverless company called Cruise at the beginning of last year. At the same time, they invested in LYFT. Their industrial layout is gradually becoming complete, and Ford is also following the trend. They started to do their own shared travel, and last year they bought an unmanned startup called ARGO AI, which also went to a direction of a comprehensive layout of the unmanned eco-industry. This is from the car company.
From the point of view of the travel company, LYFT and GM cooperate with Google, and everyone can see such a mainstream direction, that is, high-tech companies plus car companies and travel companies, combined into a direction of industrial integration. . Uber himself is a travel company, he himself is also very big to be unmanned, it bought a driverless company such as Otto. How to go in the future, I think it will also be combined with car companies, which has become a big direction of industrial integration, a big opportunity.
In China, high-tech companies like Jingchi, we are also trying to follow this path. We also hope to enter a direction of such an industry integration. Our company is very young. We were established on April 3 this year. On May 12th, we completed the first unmanned closed field test. By June 24th we completed the test of the complex road conditions of the open road. Our car only took two months and three weeks. You can walk into the US city road to test the scene. We look forward to bringing fully automated driverless cars into Chinese cities by 2020 and becoming the first company in the world to be able to scale unmanned technology.
Let's watch a small video. This is our first test on May 12.
This is the highest speed that Chinese unmanned vehicles ran out in Silicon Valley, USA, in complex urban roads. This is the level of technology we achieved with a company that was less than three months old. In the future, we look forward to working with these Chinese companies and the entire industry to promote driverless driving. However, the efforts of enterprises alone are still far from enough. On the road of unmanned driving, the government and legislators have very important influence. I used to agree that the US law is very slow and very conservative, but I did not expect that the US legislators went very fast and very radical in the case of unmanned driving. Two years ago, only one state in California allowed unmanned vehicles to test on the road, but at the time two drivers were required to sit on the car, one behind the wheel and the other looking at the computer. At the beginning of last year, Utah was the first to allow a driver to drive behind a driverless car. By the end of last year, there were already several states. The first one was Michigan, the state with a car industry in Detroit, and now the United States has There are five states that allow drones to get on the road, and no drivers are on the road to test. And last week each House of Representatives just passed a piece of legislation to support unmanned landing. Therefore, the law of the United States is very radical today. But the execution of our Chinese government is obvious to the whole world. At the end of last year, China put the driverless as a national strategy in the national planning of the 13th Five-Year Plan. Last month, our State Council’s development plan for a new generation of artificial intelligence also used driverlessness as a Important strategies are included in this plan.
Therefore, from now on, the world is most likely to lead people into life, that is, China and the United States. We also expect that we have the opportunity to represent China's first batch of unmanned vehicles into China's cities, and to take care of our people's lives.
Of course, to achieve such a wonderful goal, we need the integration of industry. Therefore, I am very grateful to Yongfu today, thank Zhenning, invited me to come here, map manufacturers are an indispensable part of the driverless. At the same time, we also need the state to have more inclusiveness and support for our new generation of companies like Jingchi Technology. At the same time, it is very important that the government and laws and regulations of our country can give more space for driverless driving, more support, and more rapid pace to promote Chinese unmanned driving in the world this time. Get the leading position in the middle of the race. This is a new opportunity for China's entire automotive industry, the entire smart travel industry, which is the best opportunity for us to overtake the corner. I hope that after three years, we can see that China's driverless cars have been deployed and applied on a large scale in the streets. thank you all!
