[PConline News] Micron, one of the memory giants, recently announced a new NVDIMM-N memory bank. The new memory bank combines DDR4 DREAM memory with NAND flash memory. The advantage of this is that it can be quickly powered down. Move the data in the memory to the flash memory to prevent data loss during power-down.

In fact, as early as the DDR3 era, Micron launched the research of NVDIMM memory sticks. Here the popular science, NVDIMM memory is a non-volatile memory, that is to say, if the memory is powered down, it will not lose the original data. We all know that the memory we use at the moment, after power down, in the memory All data will be lost, and the NVDIMM memory will retain the original data to prevent accidents. Previously, there were specifications of 8GB DDR4 and 16GB DDR4, but this time it directly doubled the capacity and had a 32GB capacity.

The NVDIMM-N was released as N type. It uses NAND flash memory as data backup. In addition, NVDIMM-F is used as pure flash memory. Micron's new generation of NVDIMM-N 32GB DDR4 memory comes with a 64GB SLC NAND. If there is a power failure, the onboard FPGA will immediately transfer all operating data to flash memory.

During power off, the memory module can maintain power by using an external power supply. There are two types of power supply. You can use the power line to connect an external AGIGA PowerGEM capacitor to maintain power supply, or use battery power from the DIMM 12V slot. Micron is currently trial production of 32GB NVDIMM-N, but did not disclose when the production. By the way, it is reported that the 3D XPoint Ao Teng technology jointly developed by Micron and Intel is being further advanced, and the memory and flash memory will be unified in the future.
