STMicroelectronics has released an innovative display backlight LED controller chip, the STLED25. The new product simplifies the circuit design of mobile phones and other portable electronic products, providing a stable and high-quality illumination source for displays, saving more board space and extending battery life. It is available in a 12-bump, 0.4 mm pitch wafer size package and is expected to be in volume production in December 2011.

The STLED25 integrates control circuitry capable of driving up to ten LEDs on a single die, so the STLED25 not only simplifies handset design, but also saves more board space.

The STLED25 provides five high-side current sources that can be directly connected to the LED, while the low-side can be directly connected to the ground without the need to reconnect each LED channel to the controller chip for even more compactness. Robust and reliable design. The STLED25 requires only one external resistor to set the LED drive current.

The STLED25 operates from 2.3 to 5.5 volts and is suitable for battery-powered electronics. The controller chip can drive five branch channels through two independent control pins. Whether in maximum brightness or dimming mode, the controller ensures high voltage efficiency in the voltage conversion and current control circuitry, maximizing battery life. In addition, the current matching of each channel is very accurate, ensuring consistent backlight brightness.
