21ic News STMicroelectronics (ST) announced the addition of its new line of DisplayPort products to the STDP43 family. The new System-on-Chip (SoC) is the world's first high-speed active protocol bi-directional media routing chip that manages audio and video data from a variety of sources and sends it to multiple display devices. The new product supports the latest versions of DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4, the two most popular digital display interface technologies currently used in computers and consumer electronics. A new generation of notebooks and PCs based on Intel and AMD's latest CPUs support the multi-streaming capabilities of the DisplayPort 1.2 interface, requiring next-generation digital signage, universal docking stations and video hubs, and the STDP43 system-on-chip is driving this fast-growing market.

The STDP43 family provides powerful routing logic management for today's complex display options. For example, in data centers, video walls and control centers, the ability to distribute content to multiple display devices is an important technical requirement. Through various configurations of dual-mode transceivers, ST's new system-on-chip can separate, merge, and forward DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4 signals and convert them into full HD signal-driven multi-daisy with color depths up to 48 bits per pixel. The chain is connected to the display, or converted to a 4Kx2K (4096x2160p = 4x Full HD) video signal to drive a single display.

The industry's first features of the STDP43 series:
· The first single-chip solution to combine two DisplayPort or HDMI streams into one DisplayPort 1.2 MST (multi-stream) output
· The first to split the DisplayPort 1.2 MST signal into two DisplayPort or HDMI outputs
· The first to transmit 8 audio and video streams between two devices via a single connector/data line
· The first discrete DisplayPort receiver with integrated DisplayPort GTC (Global Time Code) function for inter-audio channel synchronization
Other important features and technical advantages:
· 21.6 Gbps total link bandwidth supports the current maximum resolution and full 3D format, up to 4K2K 60Hz/3D Full HD 120Hz video and 7.1 channel audio
· Supports video distribution to 4K2K displays; single STDP43 system-level chip can drive two 4K2K displays; multiple STDP43 chips in series can drive multiple 4K2K displays
· Supports mobile DisplayPort (MyDP) function; can receive and display MyDP signals from smartphones and tablets via passive data lines
STMicroelectronics is sampling the STDP43 family of dual-mode DisplayPort 1.2 splitters (STDP4320) and dual-mode DisplayPort 1.2 concentrators (STDP4328), which are expected to be in volume production in the second quarter of 2013.
