At noon on July 29th, Beijing time, Tesla held a conference at the California Flemont Assembly Plant. The owner, Elon Musk, appeared and delivered the first batch of 30 new production models.
Model 3 was released in March 2016. The first mass production went offline in early July 2017. The owner was Musk himself. Although this is the delivery conference for the first batch of vehicles, in fact, the owner of all 30 vehicles is all Tesla employees. The 30-odd vehicles will be opened after the press conference.
Compared with the concept car originally released, the Model 3's appearance and interiors have not changed much. From the perspective of the side of the body, the Model 3 is basically a miniature version of the Model S. The waistline, the fold line of the door, the fold line of the wheel arch above the rear wheel, the shape of the rear door, and the rear window are all exactly the same.
Compared with the concept car, the distance before the B-pillar of the production car is lengthened, which is probably to increase the space inside the car. According to Musk, the Model 3 offers the largest space in a seemingly small body shape. According to the experience of the media who went to the site to test drive, the interior space of the Tesla Model 3 allowed four adults to ride without cramped.
However, because of the smaller body length, the Model 3's luggage storage space is certainly smaller than the Model S. It is only about half the size of the Model S. The front luggage compartment can hold one backpack and the boot box can hold two cabins.
The most surprising is that Model 3 does not have a dashboard
It is almost the same as the concept car. It is located in front of the driver, and none of the dashboards that all vehicles should have exist.
The front of the Model 3 was designed with only a 15-inch large screen at the very center, and all driving information was on this screen.
At the rear of the steering wheel, there are only two control levers, the control lights and wipers on the left and the five levers on the right, reversing, parking, neutral, driving and automatic (assisting) driving: automatic driving It was designed as a separate gear.
The Model 3 also has no conventional air conditioning control panels and air conditioning outlets. The air-conditioning panel is naturally integrated in the central control screen. The air-conditioning air outlet becomes a strip-shaped opening across the entire carriage under the windshield. The wind direction is also controlled in the central control screen.
Compared with this stunning interior, the Model 3's glass roof and hidden door handles are not worth mentioning.
Needless to say, the Tesla Model 3 looks very special, but there are some very simple designs that are still questionable.
For example, the biggest interior design breakthrough in the central display, although it seems that the entire cabin atmosphere is therefore very modern and streamlined, but the driver gets more basic information such as the speed of the road is more troublesome, you need to significantly shift the line of sight from the road to the central screen.
According to Musk, after the Model 3 supports full-automatic driving in the future, users can watch movies, talk or sleep in the car. This completely devoid of dashboard design was very aggressive.
Configuration is more streamlined
Performance, Tesla offers two configurations, the basic version of life 350 kilometers, 100 kilometers to accelerate 5.6 seconds, starting at 35,000 US dollars; long battery life 500 kilometers, 100 kilometers to accelerate 5 seconds, starting at 44,000 US dollars. The two models will only provide rear-wheel drive models for the time being, and all Model 3s will use the new 21700 lithium battery core level.
There is also an optional part of the configuration: Unlock $5,000 for automatic assistance. Including electric seats, seat heating, glass defogging, perforated wood interiors including a $5,000 premium package, special paint $1,000, and more. In the future, if Tesla updates its fully automated driving software, unlocking will cost US$3,000.
In general, the optional components are much smaller than Model S and X, and the purpose is also to reduce costs and streamline production.
Tesla's delivery of the first batch of vehicles to its employees is a more convenient issue for Tesla to find out in the phase of mass production vehicles and facilitate the subsequent ramp-up of production capacity.
At present, Model 3 has accumulated more than 500,000 orders, and each order is pre-paid by US$1,000 or its equivalent currency. However, only 30 are currently produced in July. Musk said that the production capacity of the Model 3 will be improved with the improvement of the battery factory "Gigascale Factory" and the Fremont General Assembly Plant. The target is to reach the target of 20,000 units per month in December this year.
Before November, Tesla will only produce long-haul models. Standard models will begin production in December and will begin production of 4-wheel-drive models next spring. Delivery of vehicles outside the United States will begin in the second half of 2018.
Tesla promoted at the event, Model 3 is "the world's first mass market electric vehicle." In fact, Model 3 is not the world's first mass-produced electric car, nor is it the cheapest.

The biggest problem is still mass production
Earlier this month, Tesla China organized a media event after moving its office to the Huamao Center. At that time, the Model 3 had not yet been mass-produced. The “Curious Daily†asked when the Model 3 will be delivered in China. When a test drive is available for potential customer experience.
Tesla China's answer is: There is no timetable.
In March, Tesla announced its revenue of 1 billion U.S. dollars in China in 2016, accounting for 15% of the total annual revenue. However, at least 42% of this figure is taxes (tariffs 25% and VAT 17%).

However, in the future sales of Model 3 in China, the tax must be a very important factor: According to Tesla's pricing rules, the future sales price of imported Model 3 in China is estimated to be between 300,000 and 310,000 yuan.
This price is exactly the price range for the most fierce luxury sedan in the Chinese market. The prices of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 domestic models are all set at around 280,000.
