According to the Senegalese official newspaper "The Sun" reported on the 4th, Senegal will build an energy-saving lamp factory during the year, aiming to replace incandescent lamps with energy-saving lamps nationwide in the first half of 2011.

The report said that Senegal’s Energy Minister Samuel Saar announced at the international symposium on “Energy Saving Lamps for Economic Development and Environmental Protection” held in Dakar on the 3rd that an energy-saving lamp factory will be built during the year. Energy-saving lamps are supplied to the country and surrounding countries to save energy and promote environmental protection.

Saar said that the process of using energy-saving lamps and accelerating urban and rural electrification in Senegal is irreversible, and that the Serbian National Assembly is about to legislate, clearly stating that it will use energy-saving lamps throughout the country in the second half of 2011, prohibiting the use of incandescent lamps.

He said that Senegal is a poor country, 40% of its export foreign exchange income is used to import oil, and then refined oil products are produced in the country for power generation. The company plans to use 3.5 million energy-saving lamps to save more than 1 million kilowatt-hours per year, while also reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

According to experts, 95% of the energy of ordinary incandescent lamps is wasted on heating. To achieve the same lighting effect, energy-saving lamps require only 20% of the energy required for incandescent lamps and can last up to 10 times longer than incandescent lamps. Replacing a 60-watt incandescent lamp with an energy-saving lamp of the same brightness can save 19 kilograms of coal a year, while reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and air pollutants.

It is reported that Senegal's current power generation facilities have a total installed capacity of 530,000 kilowatts, mainly fuel-fired power generation. Due to insufficient power supply, cities such as Dakar in the capital have severely restricted power cuts, which seriously affects economic and social development.
