A new "data-transmit TIng pill" may save the lives of firefighters. The "pill" can alert people when threatened by overheating. Australian researchers equipped Equivtal EQ02 LifeMonitor with 50 firefighters in training and monitored their core body temperature. The information is first sent to a device on the chest of each firefighter (the device tracks body surface temperature and heart / breathing rate), and then sent to an external computer away from the fire (outside the safe distance).
If any important sign information is increasing at an alarming rate, the system will theoretically allow a single firefighter to be pulled out and give him some breathing time-avoiding the serious risk of losing consciousness or even cardiac arrest. Brave firefighters are often affected by adrenaline to perform inherently dangerous work, and this provides an additional protection and has a higher accuracy (the current method is by measuring the temperature of the ear).
In the coming months, researchers will continue to use the "pill" to observe its response to different temperatures. Interestingly, Felix Baumgarter swallowed this pill before his unforgettable supersonic free fall, giving the ground team a way to track their health throughout the 128,000-foot descent.
