On April 13, 2012, GE Lighting released the first Zhaga-compliant product at LIGHT + BUILDING, marking a major breakthrough in GE's road to LED light engine standardization.

GE Lighting will present a full suite of Infusion LED modules bearing the Zhaga logo at the expo, which is designed to meet the Zhaga specification clause 5, "Inlaid Independent Electronically Controlled Light Engine."

John Strainic, General Manager of GE Lighting Global Products, said: "The standard sets the direction for the future development of LED modules and luminaires, bringing about a real revolution in commercial and residential space lighting. GE and other lighting companies are within the specifications of the Zhaga Alliance. The developments that have been made will inspire the imagination of lighting designers and professionals around the world."

It is understood that the Infusion LED module series also includes four other new LED modules, namely the downlight application module, the high-intensity narrow beam module system, the new spotlight engine in accordance with the Zhaga specification clause 3, and the high lumen products. All are based on the latest interchangeable light engine specifications adopted by the Zhaga Alliance.

In addition to the expansion of the Infusion LED module series described above, GE Lighting will also introduce the Lumination LED downlight series, the latest in lighting products that incorporate Infusion modules.

The Zhaga Alliance is a global organization that has attracted more than 180 manufacturers, such as lamps, light sources, LED modules, and industry-related companies from the United States, Asia, and Europe. Some of them provide related services in the lighting industry. Since its inception in February 2010, GE Lighting has been a full member.

The Zhaga Alliance is committed to enhancing the compatibility of LED modules and their controls in mechanical, optical, thermal and electrical applications. With the continuous rapid development of LED technology, the Zhaga Alliance has developed corresponding specifications to enhance the interchangeability of LED products of different brands.

Andy Davies, director of sales and development for GE Lighting LEDs, said: “Modularity and interchangeability are beneficial to both manufacturers and users. Zhaga specifications can accelerate product promotion, reduce risk and development costs while encouraging design innovation. With this idea going on, LED products will become more popular. The Zhaga-style Infusion modules and other new products that we released at the Light+Building Expo are a milestone in our transition era."
