At this year's SPIE Photonics West, Texas Instruments hosted the conference titled "The Emerging Systems and Applications Based on DMD." The Mexixi Photonics Fair is a large-scale industry conference. This year, the number of participants was more than 20,000. More than 4,800 conference documents and papers were submitted during the conference. More than 1,300 companies showed their products, and there were three sub-theme conferences— - Biomedical Imaging (BIOS), Laser Applications (LASE), and Optoelectronics (OPTO). During the conference, innovative applications realized through in-depth research on Digital Micromirror Devices (DMD) continued to surprise us. This year is also the ninth time that TI DLP® products have sponsored the DMD conference theme at the Photonics. At the DMD meeting, participants presented a total of 24 conference documents and papers. Topics covered included advanced manufacturing, 3D metrology, spectral analysis, biomedical imaging, computational imaging, and beam shaping. In addition, literature and papers on biomedical imaging, laser applications, and optoelectronics theme conferences also include DMD-related information. The breathtaking application scope exhibited at the show reflects the versatility and flexibility of the DMD. The following are several emerging applications discussed during the conference.
This year's US-China Photonics Expo included an application-themed conference that focused on 3D printing for advanced manufacturing and highlighted the innovative approach of applying this rapidly evolving technology. The positioning of DLP technology precisely supports this. The four papers at the conference discussed different aspects of 3D printing using DMD. The authors of these papers have emphasized the flexibility, resolution (in some cases requiring super-diffraction characteristics) and precise positioning of DLP technology, and regard them as very important advantages.
Leading 3D Machine VisionThe popularity of the 3D metrology conference is the highest, which indicates that everyone's interest in this DMD application is increasing. Participants submitted a total of four papers, including papers from Song Zhang from Purdue University and two invited speakers from Peter Muensterman from AICON 3D Systems. The former discusses how he uses high-speed 3D imaging based on DLP technology systems developed using defocusing rather than sinusoidal methods. This defocusing method achieves faster speeds and higher measurement accuracy, resulting in better quality. Mr. Muenstermann gives an interesting and comprehensive overview of the optical 3D scanner. According to him, the DMD-based design has a distinct advantage because of its high brightness, precise linearity, and ability to use different projection colors. In addition, Jeremy Gribben from Ajile Light Industries presented an interesting concept: DMD-based projectors not only project images but also capture images. This method achieves sub-pixel accuracy and improves the accuracy of the overall depth measurement.
Spectral analysis solutionSpectral analysis is a very suitable application for DLP technology. The conference related to spectral analysis and hyperspectral imaging contained five papers, including two from Dr. Elad Harel from Northwestern University and two from Daniel Lau, University of Kentucky. Dr. Elad Harel described how to replace expensive array detectors with high-speed DMDs while speeding up sampling by several orders of magnitude. Dr. Daniel Lau has developed an interesting technique; in this technique, he uses a DMD to collect spectrally rich scenes and detailed spatial structures. This method improves the quality of the reconstruction of the compressed measurement, especially where the reconstruction of the image is difficult at the edges.
Biomedical Imaging Meetings focused on biomedical imaging have always been one of the most popular conferences, and this is no exception. From the micro-printing of biomolecules to the promotion of high-resolution bioimaging with less photobleaching, many different innovative applications are included. In addition to the five papers presented at the DMD conference, we found that more than a dozen papers discussed the use of DMD in biomedical applications. Other specific topics include imaging through a scattering medium, optical tomography, and ophthalmic imaging.
We look forward to seeing you again next year at the 2018 US-China Photonics Expo.

The main pain points in obtaining customers in foreign trade are fierce market competition, high customer acquisition costs, low customer stickiness, and single marketing methods. With the changes in the market environment, traditional marketing methods have been unable to meet customer needs. Enterprises need innovative marketing methods and technical means to improve customer stickiness and loyalty, reduce customer acquisition costs, in order to obtain more business opportunities in the fierce market competition.
