In December last year, Oculus introduced Touch designed specifically for the Rift, but soon it will be replaced by another input device. According to a patent application passed by Oculus, the company is developing a VR glove.

The patent, entitled "VR System Optical Hand Tracking," is equipped with a series of optical sensing arrays similar to those of the Touch and Rift heads to capture light from the sensor through an "imaging device." This "imaging device" has been used in Rift heads and touches.

The system can track the VR input device's ability to track the relative movement of the user's skin and the VR input device's indicative movement relative to the VR input device. The system includes an illumination source integrated in the tracking glove and a VR remote control, and the illumination source is set to be able to illuminate part of the skin of the user's finger.

The system includes an optical sensor integrated in the glove, the optical sensor being configured to capture a plurality of images of the skin illumination portion. The system includes a remote control that can recognize differences between one or more images and estimate position data based on the identified differences.

This technique is called constellation tracking and uses position tracking with a certain number of very low illumination images per second. The Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch are equipped with infrared LEDs that allow the sensors to receive data from these LEDs. The images are captured by these sensors, and these images are then entered into the user's computer and used to analyze their differences to determine your position in the 360-degree space.

Constellation tracking technology allows you to perform forward, backward, squat, jump and other actions in a VR environment. Without this technology, your VR experience will be the same as the Samsung Gear VR - only relying on gyroscopes and accelerators to provide the most basic head movement capture.

Last week, Oculus provided a patent with a very vague description. The description of this patent is now much more detailed. Oculus Touch has received good reviews from users, but HTC Vive has been constantly developing their tracking technology, so Oculus can not stand still. Oculus is also currently testing temperature differences and other glove equipment.

Next week is Facebook's F8 Developer Conference. There are rumors that the company will show the latest VR technology. At that time we will get more news or product prototypes about Oculus gloves.
