The Verge Chinese Station reported on October 14

Recently, manufacturers have made free upgrades to the PS4 media player, and new features will support users’ own 360-degree panoramic photos and videos. The PS4 owner can load the corresponding content via a USB flash drive or local media server, then activate the “VR” mode in the media player's option menu, and then can watch it through the PlayStation VR headset.

The above VR content must come from the "equirectangular format generated by a 360-degree panoramic camera." Other supported formats include MKV, AVI, MP4, MPEG2 PS, MPEG2 TS, and AVCHD for video, and common JPEG, BMP, and PNG formats for photos.

This update with version 2.50 also benefits the music enthusiast community by adding support for high-accuracy FLAC lossless audio formats. Thanks to the help of Sony DSEE HX technology, this application can improve the performance of those non-high-precision audio files. According to Sony, those MP3 or AAC audio files that were previously compressed and saved due to the need for space savings tend to be slightly inferior in detail, and the PS4 will improve its playback quality during playback.
