Apple's touch-centric human-computer interaction has subverted the traditional human-computer interaction. Since 2007, it has never been the best, and Google has not shown weakness. It has developed a human-computer interaction method based on radar technology.
The project name is: Soli.
Soli's goal is to collect the behavior of the hand through a very small radar sensor and convert these collected signals into digital signals for the main system to determine the specific actions of the person and perform the corresponding actions.
This project is not a new project. In fact, the project was released at the 2015 Google I/O conference, but the first generation is almost useless, it needs to be used in a specific scenario, and The power consumption is extremely high.
After a year of iteration, the latest power consumption has dropped 22 times, from the previous 1.2 watts to only 0.054 watts, the volume has also dropped by 3 times, and the performance has increased by 256 times, so it is currently applied to wearable devices. On, it is much better. This means you can manipulate it without touching the device.
Soli has a radar detection update rate of 18,000 FPS. This means that it can sense the subtle movements of your fingers, even if we gently rub our fingers, they can know and deal with them accordingly. Users can move menus or scroll through content by moving them closer to or away from the electronic device. In the previous demo, we saw its amazing experience with smartwatch manipulation.
Google demonstrated the application of the technology on a smart watch: Soli can be used to view information, and the control is very precise. Since this control method does not require contact with the surface of the watch, there is no need to leave the icon of the so-called control button, so that more information can be displayed in a limited space.
Soli's main application target is equipment such as smart watches, but its application can be more extensive. It is said that the global speaker brand JBL has begun to use this technology to develop a prototype of the Bluetooth speaker, the sensor distance can reach more than 15 meters, so you can control the Bluetooth speaker at 15 meters away. This should be a big boon for manufacturers of outdoor speakers and kitchen speaker products.
Soli's chips are jointly designed by Google and the famous chip company Infinion.
