Scientists invent brain signal deciphering device

Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, have developed a "brain decoder" that can be used to decipher human thinking.

They hope that the device can be applied to smart devices and medical applications. They hope that the research team's results can ultimately help people use ideas to operate smart devices such as computers. In addition, the team also said, "We are trying to decode the various activities of the brain to create a medical prosthesis, so that a deaf person can express ideas to the outside world."

During the deciphering process, the team first invited the test subjects to read the text aloud, and then silently read the text in mind and scan their brains for nerve activity. Previously, the team had implanted recording electrodes in the brains of people with epilepsy, and then allowed them to listen to phonetic texts. Then, the subject's brain activity is plotted to match the sound with certain types of brain activity. The team also tried to identify the different neural activities mapped when listening to music.

Researcher Stephanie Martin said, “This will be a very interesting study that will enable us to predict human behavior or thoughts. Now that the brain signals can be reliably matched, there are many preparations based on the subjects. It takes a long time to realize a true 'reading device'.
