"Motorola's microprocessor is suitable for 'Palm OS5'"

Motorola's PDA/mobile-based microprocessor "DragonBall MX1" has obtained the "Palm OS5" certification from PalmSource, a US Palm software company that is engaged in Palm OS business. This is the Motorola Semiconductor Products Division announced on June 27th in the United States local time. With this determination, Motorola will be able to offer a comprehensive processor solution to customers who are licensed to use the Palm OS5 platform.

"DragonBall MX1 has been identified, and customers with Palm OS5 licenses can significantly reduce development time. Technology resources, including developers, can be concentrated to create original technologies that can open the gap with other companies" (Motorola Wireless /Omid Tahernia, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Mobile Systems Division).

The DragonBall MX1 is an embedded microprocessor for next-generation handhelds, supporting 2.5G/3G wireless mobile products, smartphones, messaging applications, web browsers/writing boards, and more. Using the ARM "ARM" for microprocessors in the UK, "a good balance between low power consumption, high performance, industry-leading high integration and a wealth of external circuits" (Motorola). Moreover, the connection between the external Bluetooth solution and the high-speed interface is optimized.

The core of the DragonBall MX1 - "ARM920T" operates at up to 200MHz. In addition, the microprocessor has a color image processing circuit and an MP3/MPEG4 media processing circuit.

Palm OS5 is an OS for handhelds and smartphones. PalmSource announced the beta version of the OS at the PalmSource Conference and Expo in February, and will provide the final version to users who have been licensed from June 20. In addition, Motorola recently demonstrated the operation of Palm OS5 using hardware made by Motorola at the PalmSource Conference in Japan and Europe.
