(1) Open circuit voltage (VOC) measurement method: the open circuit voltage of the battery when there is no load is linearly related to its state of charge. This calculation method has two basic limitations: one is to calculate the SoC, the battery must be open, not connected to the load; second, this measurement is only accurate after a long period of stability.
These limitations make the VOC method unsuitable for online computing SoC. This method is usually used in car repair shops, where the battery is removed, you can use a voltmeter to measure the voltage between the battery's positive and negative electrodes.
(2) Coulomb measurement method: This method uses coulomb counting to obtain the integral of current to time to determine the SoC. With this method, the SoC can be calculated in real time, even if the battery is under load. However, the error of the coulometric method will increase with time.
Generally, the open circuit voltage and the Coulomb counting method are used in combination to calculate the state of charge of the battery.
